WHAT TO EXPECT ON AN
AYURVEDIC RETREAT

Kadaltheeram Ayurvedic Beach Resort

Upon my recent return from leading a retreat at Kadaltheeram Ayurvedic Beach Resort in Kerala, India, I found myself deeply moved by the profound impact of the experience. The incredible group of women who joined me not only contributed to the magic of the retreat but also left an indelible mark on my heart and soul. Their presence, energy, and shared journey ignited a sense of inspiration within me that surpassed my wildest expectations. Together, we bonded, discovered truths, and grew in our journey of empowerment, leaving a lasting impact on me.

Embracing the realm of Ayurveda at Kadaltheeram feels like stepping into a timeless sanctuary. Enveloped in the faint scent of ocean mist and healing herbs, this is where the wisdom of ancient traditions meets the soothing embrace of the Arabian Sea. From the moment I arrived, I felt at home.

The simplicity and attentiveness woven into every aspect of daily life at the center resonated with me immediately. Each day began with gentle yoga flowing to the rhythm of the sunrise and ended with pranayama and meditation leading us into the tranquil descent of darkness, a poignant reminder of the natural cycles that govern life according to Ayurvedic principles. Amidst the modest yet luxurious accommodations, I found a profound sense of peace and comfort, creating the perfect environment for me to truly unwind and rejuvenate.

Central to the transformative experience were the twice-daily treatments, meticulously customized to meet my unique needs. These sacred rituals of healing, ranging from therapeutic massages to revitalizing herbal remedies, served as steadfast anchors in my journey toward balance and vitality. Complementing these treatments, the daily yoga and meditation sessions offered a serene sanctuary for inner exploration and self-discovery, each moment accompanied by the soothing rhythm of the ocean waves that served as the natural soundtrack in the background.

Ridiculously wonderful, right?

During the retreat, we intentionally paused from our daily routine to connect to the beauty and culture of our surroundings. We explored a nearby temple, strolled through vibrant markets, perused a spice shop, savored a delightful dinner on the bustling cliff, and marveled at the stunning scenery while cruising the serene backwaters aboard a traditional houseboat.

Through all these encounters, I was profoundly touched by the kindness and sense of community that enveloped the Ayurveda center. Amidst fellow seekers embarking on their own paths to wellness, I found solace in shared stories and experiences. In this nurturing environment, united by a common reverence for the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, I discovered the transformative power of human connection in fostering healing and growth.

As I reflect on my time at Kadaltheeram, I am filled with gratitude for the profound renewal it has brought to my life. In the simplicity of daily rituals, the kindness of the staff, the connectedness of shared experiences, and the healing power of nature's embrace, I found a sanctuary that resonated deep within my soul. Despite returning home 5 pounds lighter, what I gained during this journey is invaluable and serves as a perpetual reminder of the boundless potential for healing and transformation within us all, awaiting awakening through the gentle guidance of ancient wisdom.

Some of my biggest takeaways:

- Dinacharya (good daily routine) is the key to longevity.
- Drink hot herbal water throughout the day (great for good lymphatic flow).
- There is profound healing that happens while BE-ing and not DO-ing.
- Maintain a regular yoga practice - all of yoga, not just asana.
- You cannot supplement your way out of improper diet and lifestyle.
- Simplify.
- Cook every day.
- I can live without coffee, but if I want to enjoy it, drink it after breakfast.
- Schedule retreats to an Ayurvedic center twice a year.
